About the Portal
Faculty, students and staff use the campus "portal," an intranet called "inside.uthscsa.edu," as an entryway to university information and services.
The portal contains information organized into topics, or "tabs." The tabs list information important by a person's role on campus: faculty or student. The tabs also list information by its nature: people, policies, news, services, research, and technology.
In addition, users with log-ins may pick the content they want on their "My Page" tab, or homepage. It's a lot like Yahoo and My Netscape. What is different are the choices.Users get to fill their personal homepage with "pagelets," or channels, that are fun, informative, amusing and about the Health Science Center: classified ads, pictures of employees, the popular "Pet of the Day" feature, web searches, and the CampusCam.
The portal is a digital crossroads for business and administrative functions. Introduced in 2002, inside.uthscsa has become the gateway for dozens of functions important to students, and faculty and staff.
