Present: Thomas Anthony, Dr. Keith Krolick, Heather Cura, Dr. Raymond Palmer, Tom Raymond, Gilbert Sosa, Doug Hartzler, Mary Yanes, and Jim Barrett.
The chair, Dr. Raymond Palmer, called the meeting to order. Committee members approved the May 25 minutes. Jim Barrett gave the webmaster's report. He said:- Server traffic in June rose 2 percent, to 1,493,981 page views, over the same month in 2004.
- Results of survey of ACEs ranked the most "user unfriendly" business forms on the web. He said 44 of 99 ACEs responded to the survey, and their votes gave him a ranking of the "Top 10" unfriendly forms. Mr. Barrett said he and Dr. Frank Stafford, director of Computing Resources, have begun contacting the form owners to offer help in fixing the forms. Dr. Keith Krolick asked whether training is available to employees who make the forms. He said there are many intradepartmental forms that could be improved in addition to ones available on the web. Dr. Krolick suggested offering classes, and recommending that all forms be created with a single type of software. Gilbert Sosa said the forms ideally should be replaced with web applications so paper isn't needed. Doug Hartzler said more business transactions are being added to the PeopleSoft suite, and other applications. He cited an upcoming web application that would handle orders to ship parcels by Federal Express. Dr. Palmer said it would be worth asking the Computing Resources Committee about setting up training for people who build business forms. Other committee members agreed, and he said he would make the recommendation on behalf of the committee.
- The semi-annual validation for web accessibility was finished July 7, and provided a copy of the report that was sent to Dr. Bonnie Blankmeyer, who heads the university's ADA committee. Mr. Barrett said 136 web pages listed on the site index had been validated.
There was no other business, and the meeting was adjourned.
