Minutes (July 26, 2006) Web Advisory Committee

Present: Dr. Alison Beck, Dr. Sara Gill, Ida Garcia, Heather Cura, Debbie Valle, Dr. Robert Badgett, Alan Miller, Mary Yanes, and Jim Barrett.

The chair, Dr. Alison Beck, called the meeting to order. Committee members approved the May 31 minutes.

Jim Barrett gave the webmaster's report. He said:

• Server traffic in June rose 56 percent, to 2.3 million page views.
• A SharePoint server had been put into production at the request of the Faculty Senate.
• Spanish translations were almost complete for pages the committee had earlier identified as needing translations.
• Google has erroneously listed a phone number in Rehabilitation Medicine as the number for the public to call for dental appointments. He said he has asked Google to correct the listing.

Mary Yanes asked for any comments about the software upgrade of inside.uthscsa.edu, which took place in June. Dr. Sara Gill said the student-administration interface was much improved. Heather Cura said the site was easier to use.

In new business, the committee evaluated two requests for homepage links. The committee agreed to add a link called "Committees" that would go to a page showing university committees. The committee rejected a request for a front-page link to the site where surplus university equipment is auctioned online.

In old business, Dr. Beck asked the committee to provide any comments on the proposed Section 5.9 of the Handbook of Operating Procedures. The section would contain web-publishing policies, procedures, and guidelines. Committee members said they had no further comments, and agreed to recommend the policy to the Computing Resources Committee for action.

There was no other business, and the meeting was adjourned.
