Present: Dr. John Olson, Jesse Gomez, Alan Miller, Dr. Bob Badgett, Brian Neuenschwander, Al Julian, Anna Maloy, Jim Barrett
Dr. John Olson, the chair, opened the meeting, and received approval of the minutes from April 16. Jim Barrett presented the webmaster's report. Barrett said the president and Executive Committee on Tuesday endorsed the web accessibility policy proposed by the committee. Barrett said either President Cigarroa or Vice President and CIO Jerry York would send a letter to department heads drawing attention to the policy. Dr. Olson asked Barrett if it is possible to contact owners of web sites that are known to be non-compliant. He said owners of non-compliant sites probably would respond best if they were asked to correct deficiencies in a 30- or 60-day period. Barrett said he would do so. Dr. Olson said he would present the compliance issue to the Computing Resources Committee at an upcoming meeting. Barrett also distributed a copy of an April 15 letter that Vice President and CIO Jerry York sent to the state Department of Information Resources (DIR) about proposed accessibility rules. The rules were adopted May 15, and Barrett provided the committee the letter and the DIR staff response to the points it contained. On another topic, Barrett also summarized traffic on the institutional web servers: In April, the servers handled 94,180 visits and 624,216 page views. In old business, Dr. Olson asked Barrett to update the status of the internal web portal. Barrett said a newer, more stable version of software had been installed Thursday, and it would be customized in the next few weeks. He said representatives from 19 entities on campus have been invited to a meeting June 4 to introduce them to the portal and their potential roles as information providers. Barrett said he hoped to be able to provide a URL for the portal in mid-June so committee members could view the portal. Dr. Olson asked about the timeline for rolling out the portal. Barrett said the goal is a full roll-out in September, and to gradually add users to test the portal in July and August. Dr. Olson said Bonnie O'Connor was unable to attend today's meeting, but that she has a report that summarizes findings from more than a dozen web-user interviews earlier this year. The interviews are designed to help gauge preferences of users, and assist in a redesign of the institutional web site. Dr. Olson said the report would be circulated to the committee members electronically for further discussion. There being no other business, the committee adjourned and agreed to set its next meeting for Friday, July 19, 9:30-10:30 a.m. -- Minutes prepared by Jim Barrett-- Approved July 19, 2002
