Minutes (May 25, 2005) Web Advisory Committee
Present: Thomas Anthony, Dr. Alison Beck, Alan Miller, Dr. Keith Krolick, Heather Cura, Beth Guerra, Jim Barrett, and Mary Yanes.
Thomas Anthony, acting as chair, called the meeting to order. Committee members approved the April 27 minutes.
Jim Barrett gave the webmaster's report. He said:
- Server traffic in March rose 32 percent, to 1,700,577 page views, over the same month in 2004.
- Jim Barrett mentioned the mail-handling object, CDONTS, is being replaced by CDOSYS to eliminate e-mailing
functions on the main institutional web server.
- A new website, Go Local, produced by the library, now is linked
from the university home page under the title "Consumer Health."
- Set-up of listserver lists would now cost $45 under service-fee changes adopted by Information Management and Services.
Mr. Anthony asked Heather Cura to introduce the scheduled presentation about Macromedia's Contribute, a content management system
being used in the School of Nursing. Ms. Cura said the system is being used by up to 10 faculty and staff members who
are responsible for changing content on web sites, particular course syllabi. She said the system cost less than $1,000,
and has worked well. Ms. Cura presented slides to demonstrate how to install, configure and use Contribute. Her co-worker,
Beth Guerra, who attended the meeting, has been the primary user. Ms. Cura provided a URL that is a
feature tour of the product.
Administrators of the Contribute system set up user accounts for the people who are allowed to write, edit, approve and publish
content on the web. Users choose an appropriate template and can add text, images and links. Changes are published through
an approval process set up by the administrator, Ms. Cura said.
There was no other business, and the meeting was adjourned.
