Minutes (April 27, 2005) Web Advisory Committee

Present: Dr. Raymond Palmer, Thomas Anthony, Dr. Alison Beck, Tom Raymond, Alan Miller, Gilbert Sosa, Albert Preciado, Bess Buzzini, Michael Arnwine, Doug Hartzler, Heather Cura, Mary Yanes, and Jim Barrett.

The chair, Dr. Raymond Palmer, called the meeting to order. Committee members approved the Feb. 23 minutes.

Jim Barrett gave the webmaster's report. He said:

• Server traffic in March rose 41 percent, to 1,815,763 page views, over the same month in 2004.
• The new Google search appliance has arrived, and been put into production at the UT System office in Austin. The Health Science Center's domain has been indexed on the new server, and web-site operators who used the previous Google appliance have received the new URL and coding specifications.
• He plans to do another web accessibility validation in July. Mr. Barrett said he planned to validate the web pages listed on the university's site index list.

Dr. Palmer asked Gilbert Sosa to introduce the scheduled presentation about the content management system developed and used by the Multimedia and Web Services division. Mr. Sosa said the system is designed for web-site owners who do not know html, but want to update their own sites. The system allows them to do so without the danger of damaging html coding on their pages.

Michael Arnwine of Multimedia and Web Services showed the user-interface screen of the content management system, and explained its functions. Bess Buzzini of Academic Informatics Services showed and described the system's method of saving and displaying documents for the web-site owners.

Mr. Arnwine said about 15 web sites use the system, and a version 2.0 is being developed.

There was no other business, and the meeting was adjourned.
