Present: Dr. Alison Beck, Heather Cura, Gilbert Sosa, Debbie Valle, Dr. Nedal Arar, Alan Miller, Dr. Robert Badgett, Doug Hartzler and Jim Barrett.
The chair, Dr. Alison Beck, called the meeting to order. Committee members approved the March 23 minutes. Jim Barrett gave the webmaster's report. He said:- Server traffic in March declined 44 percent, to 1.8 million page views, over the same month in 2006. Members discussed possible reasons for the decrease, and agreed to review and compare usage statistics next month.
- He provided comment to state officials on proposed changes to Texas Administrative Code Sections 206 and 213. Mr. Barrett said the changes primarily require universities to write policies on providing access, if needed, to telephones, computers, video devices, and sealed systems such as kiosks and card readers. Policies already are in force for web sites, he said, so the proposals focus on electronic devices. The board of the state Department of Information Resources plans to act on the proposals in a month or two, he said.
- The university's branding and marketing initiative is expected to produce proposals in late summer. Mr. Barrett said the plan is to introduce new brand-identification graphics, colors and slogans over a period of months once the proposals are accepted.
In other business, the committee discussed RSS and ways to distribute news links that could be included in web pages.
Gilbert Sosa said the chief information officer had selected an assistant vice president who will be chiefly concerned with research and academic technology services. He said the person would start in May.
Doug Hartzler announced that the human-capital management system, which handles individual personnel information for the Office of Human Resources, is scheduled to go online July 5. The committee received a preview of the system in November.
There was no other business, and the meeting was adjourned.
