1. Approval of MinutesThe minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as distributed. 2. Webmaster's Report
- Jim Barrett said a minimum $32-per-hour charge had been implemented for persons who want their websites configured to use FrontPage extensions. Configurations generally take about an hour per website, he said.
- Sites on the institutional web server will receive higher disk quotas, moving to 30 megabytes from 10 megabytes. Users over the quota will be charged $2 per meg per month. This will affect approximately five departments within the HSC that now exceed this amount.
- Jim informed the committee that the search robot is experiencing intermittent failures. The robot was scheduled to have a new data file installed.
- Jim informed the committee the web server migration will be completed next month.
- Jim Barrett provided the "UTHSCSA Categorization of Desktop Computing Software" handout, which describes the level of institutional support for software programs.
- Jim Barrett provided the "HTML Editing: Use the Tool that Meets the Job" handout, which is a list of popular web designing/editing software.
- After review of the "Tools" handout, the committee decided that more information is needed to determine which programs are the best based on cost, training available, and capabilities. Jim Barrett and Dr. Bob Badgett will work on a web table to compare selected software titles discussed at the meeting.
- Brian Neuenschwander recommended polling the HSC faculty and staff to determine the exact needs of HTML editing software in order to determine the best application.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m. The next general meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. on May 18, 2001 in 494L.
