Present: Dr. John Olson, Bonnie O'Connor, Sallieann Swanner, Jesse Gomez, Kat Myers, Alan Miller, Dr. Bob Badgett, Al Julian, Dr. Frank Stafford, Mike Runnels, Greg Talbert, Jim Barrett
Dr. John Olson, the chair, opened the meeting, and received approval of the minutes from Feb. 15. Jim Barrett presented the webmaster's report. He said Executive Committee consideration of the web accessibility policy, endorsed by the committee and the Computing Resources Committee, was postponed from April 23 to a later date. Barrett also showed the committee the new website that displays usage reports for the two institutional servers. He said he would e-mail the URL to the members. In new business, Barrett displayed an "alpha" version of the PeopleSoft portal, and showed how users and information providers would use the portal. He described "pagelets" as floating frames on the user's portal homepage that could display news, links or information from different departments or campus service providers. Information providers, he said, could run the pagelets on their own servers and the portal would display the pagelet. Dr. Olson suggested contacting some of the information providers, and asking them to create pagelets in the coming month. Barrett said he would show the portal and improvements when the committee meets again. In other new business, Bonnie O'Connor presented a summary of opinions expressed in a web user questionnaire conducted by the library web team and the webmaster over the past two months. O'Connor said the most-cited web goals were 1) recruitment of faculty and students, 2) group practice portal for University Physicians Group (UPG), 3) promote the research done at the institution, and 4) promote the university's identity ("We are not UTSA!"). She said the top three website qualities cited were 1) ease of use, 2) convenience of content arrangement, and 3) show a friendly face and uniqueness as an institution. She said the survey now would elicit student opinions. There being no other business, the committee adjourned and agreed to set its next meeting for Friday, May 31, 9:30-10:30 a.m. -- Minutes prepared by Jim Barrett-- Approved May 31, 2002
