  1. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as distributed.

  2. Old Business
Jim Barrett introduced the new front page of the HSC web page. The committee suggested three changes:
    • Recommend that the university overview be changed to "about us"
    • Recommend that the link HSC Today be combined with News & Videos and read "HSC Today – News & Videos"
    • Alphabetize the right side of the home page.

The committee is uncertain of the layout of the affiliated schools. They will revisit the layout at the next meeting.

The committee discussed web-authoring tools at length. Barbara Covington addressed the committee on the possibility of recommending specific guidelines to be developed for HSC webmasters. She would like to recommend that a list be developed at the next meeting. The committee divided the different software programs by familiarity and will discuss these programs at the next meeting. The possibility of developing style sheets was also discussed. The committee decided that this would also be discussed at the next meeting.

  3. New Business

Jim Barrett, HSC webmaster, briefed the committee on the first meeting for university web administrators that was held on March 7. Approximately 70 individuals attended the meeting. During the meeting, Jim briefed the Administrators on the migration of the institutional server to a new server. He also explained how the search spider works and ADA compliance. Overall, the committee was very pleased with the number that turned out for the meeting.

Jim Barrett gave the committee the http address for the new search spider. It is http:seeker.uthscsa.edu.

Jim also informed the committee that the new server failed last week. They are in the process of finding out why it failed before any other sites are loaded. Approximately 10 sites have already been loaded, which should not interfere with the process of trying to see why the server failed.

Jim Barrett briefed the committee on the possibility of Jim Allan returning to possibly update the Web Administrators on ADA website compliance. The committee discussed the possibility of having Dr. Allan offer a half-day workshop in the near future.

The search spider was also discussed. Jim Barrett suggested the possibility of charging a $50 setup fee for indexing sites. The search spider was discussed with more information to follow at the next meeting in April.

The next meeting on April 20 will cover the topic of "links" on the front page.

Barbara Covington will join the committee as a representative for the School of Nursing.

  4. Adjournment

Dr. Bob Badgett adjourned meeting at 10:30 a.m. The next general meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. on April 20 in 494L.
