Minutes (March 6, 2008) Web Advisory Committee

Present: Dr. Nedal Arar, Alan Miller, Debbie Valle, Brian Bell, Katie Prentice, Anna Maloy, Rene Torres, Kat Myers, Bruce Butterfras, Dr. Ivon Foster, Ida Garcia, Elizabeth Toth, Heather Cura, Gilbert Sosa, Jim Barrett and Mary Yanes

Dr. Nedal Arar, the chair, called the meeting to order. Committee members approved the Feb. 7 minutes.

Jim Barrett presented the webmaster's report. He said:

• Web traffic on the two institutional servers rose 35 percent in February, to 2.2 million pageviews, over the same month in 2007.
• Dr. Victoria Frohlich of the Office of the Vice President for Research had responded to his message last month describing the committee's interest in a web database of research equipment.
• A misconfigured DNS setting has been corrected so the domain may be accessed as "uthscsa.edu" as well as "www.uthscsa.edu."
• State officials have proposed changes to Texas Administrative Code sections 206 and 213, and they would be discussed at a subsequent committee meeting.

In old business, the committee renewed its dicussion of the web-site rebranding, and focused on a new homepage developed by the university's consultant. Rene Torres presented the mockup, and the members discussed its navigation, graphics, and content at length.

Mr. Barrett also presented first-tier pages under the homepage that showed the same navigation choices. He said the top tier and the homepage needed to show similar choices in the left navigation bar.

The committee agreed to publish the first-tier pages with slight changes to the navigation bar. It sought more detailed mockups of the homepage. Mr. Barrett asked Mr. Torres if he could prepare seven photos from the Mission magazine for the homepage mockup. Mr. Torres said he could, and they agreed on a March 17 deadline.

There was no other business, and the meeting was adjourned.
