Present: Dr. Raymond Palmer, Dr. Keith Krolick, Dr. Joseph Lucke, Dr. Alison Beck, Thomas Anthony, Brian Neuenschwander, Heather Cura, Dr. Robert Badgett, Alan Miller, Tom Raymond, Jesse Gomez, Gilbert Sosa, Jim Barrett and Mary Yanes.
Dr. Raymond Palmer, the chair, opened the meeting, and received approval of the Jan. 28 minutes. Jim Barrett went over the webmaster's report, adding we are currently hosting about 15 non-uthscsa.edu. He said three new requests have arrived in the last month, and cited the names of the requesters and their purpose for the web sites. In new business, Dr. Palmer asked Mr. Barrett to elaborate on rollout of the campus calendar. Mr. Barrett said the calendar software, made by WebEvent, has been problematic, putting the project about a month behind schedule. He said he hoped to have the Department of Medicine become the first to test the calendar in the next couple of weeks. He said the University Relations Office would be the next tester.
Mr. Barrett demonstrated the calendar, and said all posted events would be public. He asked whether the committee members had an opinion about whether to restrict calendar postings to events expected to draw a minimum of 10 or 15 people. Dr. Keith Krolick said he thought few people would go to the trouble of entering an event called for only a few people. Haether Cura said it should be sufficient to leave the calendar open to any campus-approved group or event.
Dr. Krolick asked whether the calendar is compatible with various web browsers and e-mail programs. Mr. Barrett said e-mail notifications come in plain text files, therefore, any mail client should be compatible. The export feature, which actually adds the event to the user's personal calendar, uses an iCal file type that may present a problem with some e-mail calendars. He said this will need to be tested.
Dr. Robert Badgett asked if there was a way of exporting events from Outlook into the calendar. Mr. Barrett said no, however, a calendar administrator could delay displaying submitted events until they are finalized.
Gilbert Sosa mentioned that Multimedia and Web Services is working on web-base maps of university buildings and that they would be available to help calendar users locate meeting sites.
Dr. Palmer asked if there was any other business. There was none, and the meeting adjourned. The next meeting is scheduled for 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31.
