Hosting a Web Site
You have three choices when you want to host a web site at the Health Science Center:
- Use the Health Science Center's institutional server
- Set up your own server
- Use your department's own server, if it has one.
Multimedia Production can place your site on the institutional server. There's a one-time $50 set-up fee, and a $240-a-year fee. The fee covers daily back-ups, server maintenance, and up to one hour a month devoted to updating your content. Submit a Web Site Hosting Service Agreeement (.pdf format) to the department.
To run your own server, submit an IP Address/DNS Entry Service Request. The server and its operating system will be checked for applicable security "patches," and compliance with web accessibility laws.
Web sites that are registered as a non-uthscsa.edu domain may be hosted by the university with approval of a dean or vice president, and consent of the webmaster. The web-site requester needs to complete a Request for Non-uthscsa.edu Domain form (.doc format).
SharePoint services hosting is available from the Department of Information Management Client Support Services. The university uses SharePoint for special-purpose web sites that are internal and require password protection.
